More Thought

It is the end of January. I'm twelve weeks away from the untitled senior show and was ill-advised to stop with the self-portraits and chocolate syrup paintings on paper. Since my thesis paper is solely on appropriations of romance novels and soap opera obsession, I am going to continue my drawings (maybe some paintings)of those and creating a 45th Anniversary Commemorative Magazine for Days of Our Lives- it will contain stories, drawings, pictures from the fan event, and an essay.
So it's back to the drawing board peoples!!!! :D

Besides Christmas cards and rubber duck fashion design, I've been exploring a new arena. Ever since I got my results back from 23andme.com and Dr. McDonald, I've been trying to figure out how to create a body of work. Can one make art from being identified as 87.8% African and 12.2% European? Sure. Art is so universal that anything can be! I love the face. The many emotions, the movements, the features. A billion adjectives can describe how much I enjoy creating art about the face! So in combining the research and facial enthusiasm, abstracted portraiture seemed to be my answer. R.I.P. Meano: Best Dog Ever 2000-2011

He aggravated me in the mornings whistling for outdoor freedom. Awaiting the tiniest bit of scrappy crumbs, he impolitely stared hard as I ate anything. Even foods that wouldn't interest him like chocolate, fruits, and vegetables. Only once had I seen him ever consume an orange carrot. He strangely howled along with the ambulance trucks, gnawed nosily at the fleas on his back and tail, and at times he barked for no reason at all. But he was a very good buddy. The friendliest, most sweetest, most lovable pal anyone could ask for, especially from a woman who feared dogs her entire life. When I first met Meano, a huge, gorgeous, mixed breed dog, six years ago, I pleaded for him to be put outside every time I came over. Gradually, after a few hesitant pets on the head and the occasional lap humping that male dogs love to do, we became good friends. Goodbye 2009

I was thinking about the pros and cons of 2009 today, on the end of the year of course. I guess what I am thinking about mostly are the cons. Right now, I realize that I haven't done much work since the semester ended or started rewriting thesis draft number 3. It's due in mid January anyways, but still... it would have been beneficial to start writing or at least making some work to gather ideas about what the writing IS about. But the problem is that I am spending much time at Tien''s house and it's all fun and games here. I've been mostly watching TV, movies (we saw "Avatar" in 3D today), playing Wii Fit, eating to my heart's content (how much pumpkin pie have I eaten so far?), Internet surfing (my laptop has since crashed and burned! At home, I am computerless until school starts), and reading a lot of romance novels!
