UGH!

Well, I am soon to have a BFA degree in drawing, but I still don't have a job- like a real job. I haven't worked in 3 years. It really sucks because everything has just been awful since then. I've had five interviews, a non-flexible schedule, and many long hours in the studio that got in the way of paycheck opportunity.
Now I think there's a possibility for change! I'm going to throw myself out there harder (even though that rejection from Polaris Undergraduate Journal hurt a big deal!). It's time to live out my dreams and not let things pass me by in the dust!
I realize I just can't just sit here growing a beard and pot belly like a man! I'm a female gosh darn it! It's time to giddy up on the horse and put this meager talent to work! Otherwise I am going to have the worse life ever. And no creative person wants that!

"To Relax or Not To Relax" part of SWAN at the Dayton Metro Library Gallery- February 17-March 30, 2013. It's been a long time, but there's a score of exciting news to report!! One of my drawings from the Roy Lichtenstein Appropriation Series, Soapy Hair Stories is being displayed at the Dayton Metro Library in the Support Women Artists Now (SWAN) Exhibit and the Big Event that includes writers, performance artists, and poetry reading is March 30- International Woman's Day. The REACH Conference

It was such an honor to be cordially invited to attend the 19th Annual Reaching For Ethnic Awareness and Cultural Heritage Across Dayton (REACH) Conference at Sinclair Community College on Friday February 24, 2012 and to see friends- Willis "Bing" Davis, Betty Bolton, Leesa Haapapuro, James Pate, Kevin Harris, and others in one room while simultaneously meeting new people! A collaboration between Sinclair Community College, Ebonia Gallery, and the Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC), REACH is a day long event promoting "learning in the arts and humanities by creating an atmosphere that will build respect, knowledge, appreciation, and understanding for the area's culturally diverse populations." From 8AM to 4PM, this post entails eight hours of rich, implanted seeds that'll likely bear fruit to share..... Beautiful display right? New Sketches

Besides Christmas cards and rubber duck fashion design, I've been exploring a new arena. Ever since I got my results back from 23andme.com and Dr. McDonald, I've been trying to figure out how to create a body of work. Can one make art from being identified as 87.8% African and 12.2% European? Sure. Art is so universal that anything can be! I love the face. The many emotions, the movements, the features. A billion adjectives can describe how much I enjoy creating art about the face! So in combining the research and facial enthusiasm, abstracted portraiture seemed to be my answer. For this upcoming project. The shape of Africa is in various crevices of the human face. The lips are my favorite- I enjoy creating the mouth- its variations of reds, pinks, browns, and purples. It's a feature that seems to stand out the most in my portraits. This isn't any different.
